39. Hacking my way through Moho.

Post 39 – Spinning wheels and Koinobori.

Well, here I am again, still playing around in Moho. I guess we’re calling this Post 39.

Today’s challenge was trying to make spinning wheels. Let’s just say I quickly discovered that this is way outside my current skill level. I could not get the road cycling correctly, so this is still not right, definitely not the proper way. I am well aware that stuff is happening here that physics does not support lol I do not feel ready to post this, but hopefully the tales of mouse adventures will carry this time. 😉

Things to Know:

✔ How to make those wheels spin.

Wheels

I drew the little car for our mouse adventurer in Procreate some time ago, and then brought it into Moho. I am absolutely sure there’s a more elegant way to do this, but here’s the process I ended up using:

  1. Put each wheel (bitmap artwork) in their own group (folder).
  2. Make each a bone layer.
  3. Add a bone from the center of the wheel to the top.
  4. Ctl +F on Frame_1 to freeze your bone
  5. Go to frame_72.
  6. Rotate the bone counter clockwise, 3x.
  7. Set keyframes to linear.
  8. Set the last keyframe to Cycle.

Well, I got the wheels spinning (okay) but then tried to get them to squash and stretch with the bone and broke the animation loop. So back to just spinning. Not sure if my hierarchy is the problem here. For the sake of meeting this Friday’s (self-imposed) deadline, I went back to the spin only, one to figure out for next time.

For this one I put my artwork in the following layers.

  1. Car Mouse
    • Car Front
    • Bone Layer: Mouse
    • Antenna & Fish
    • Bone Layer: Back Tire
    • Bone Layer: Front Tire
    • Back of Car
    • Fender

Post 39 — Afterthoughts

Not a lot of deep thoughts today. I am just excited because I have finally saved enough gold doubloons to take Dani Abram’s Moho Magic courses on rigging and animation. I can’t wait to dive in… although I have no idea how I’m supposed to wait until August!

Until then, I’ll keep breaking rigs, hacking my way through problems, and hopefully learn something from every experiment.

See you next week. 🐠 Nik
