Day 38½ : Where to?
Hmm… well, I am not quite ready for this Moho journey to end.
While I’m waiting for a little direction (or inspiration) to reveal itself, I decided to put together this showreel montage (feels a bit sacrilegious to call it a showreel). It is a snapshot of what someone with no animation background, no illustration background, and no formal art training, an un-animator, perhaps? can create after working through 38 free YouTube lessons in Moho.

Layer Comps
The Layer Comps lesson really clicked for me this week. I can finally see why it’s worth keeping everything in separate folders. If you decide later that your animation needs to be a different size or format, it’s easy enough to make the change without rebuilding everything. That said, I didn’t always do that. On a few projects, I just dropped the vertical frame in and carried on. Sometimes you just have to get the thing posted.

After telling myself I was not going to spend one more dollar on arts supplies, I bought this brush pack from Moho.
ugh
But, on a positive note, I used one of the yummy chalk brushes to animate this little guy. I do realize he has a bit of a looping problem. I copied my main keyframes, so I know the issue is somewhere in the loop, but I couldn’t figure out what was causing the glitch. I think it probably has to do with somewhere that I applied physics, and some overlap is happening with the loop. The tail bits aren’t moving enough, and he still looks like he is smooth walking, an ant moon walk if you will. I used this McCoy Buck walk cycle tutorial to hack my way through.
All that should have sent me down a rabbit hole, instead I kept repeating done, not perfect, done not perfect. Glitch is still there , but so is the animation. So welcome to the democratization of animation 😉
JUST THOUGHTS
I wrote several things to end this week, mostly about Why? Ai. The Nine Old Men. Process, outcome, imperfection, struggle, grit, the Man in the Arena, and that Youtube is a game.
Then I deleted my thoughts, rewrote them. Then deleted them again. I don’t know that they are clear enough even in my own head to rewrite. Soo….
