Post 40 – Spin on.
It is exactly 17 days until I start Moho Magic- Rigging Course, I’m very excited to actually take a proper course, and discover where I am doing something (or everything) wrong. I’ve managed to get this far by using the free YouTube course Learning Moho from Beginner to Expert , but it will be nice to learn better ways of of doing things instead of just “hoping” I’ve stumbled onto the right method. I’m looking forward to seeing how much I can improve.
Rig Magic ✨
There is something I just love about rigging, it is magic, they are like little works of art unto themselves.
Things to Know:
✔ How to make an object move with another object.
✔ Walk cycle from left to right.
Spin
This uses the same idea I used last week for the wheels, but with a slower rotation.
For example, if you want say, a frog spinning through the air on a frisbee:
- Create a Bone Layer and place both the frog and the frisbee inside it.
- Add a single bone to the frisbee, positioning the bone’s base in the center of the frisbee. This makes the frisbee rotate around its center.
- Position the frog wherever you want it to sit on the frisbee.
- Animate the rotation of the frisbee bone, and the frog will spin with it.
- If you want the frog to move independently while it’s spinning, return to Frame 1, add bones to the frog, and animate those bones as needed.
Think of it this way: animate the parent object, and everything grouped with it comes along for the ride.

Walk
Keep working away on those walk cycles, I used this McCoy Buck video this time, mostly because the character was walking in the direction that I needed to go, and I wanted some hand-holding. lol
This is the breakdown of the cycle in that video. Although I still managed to get a bit of a limp in the back leg…think I worked it out, mostly.
This was also the first time I’d imported an audio track into Moho and tried syncing the animation to the beat. I quickly realized I have no idea how to move the audio track around on the timeline yet.
Why is it that whenever you’re learning something new, everything takes five times longer? Sigh.
I also keep trying to tell small stories, and experiment with watercolor + ink + moho .
Post 40 — Afterthoughts
Interesting week this week, I watched this video, loved it, and this interview expert with Ira Glass, highly recommend watching, loved it. Also, pretty excited that I caught a mistake this week, after missing last weeks mistake, which took me a solid 48 hours to recover from. But, you know what they say, if you’re not going to learn from your mistakes, why make any?
