Part 32/38. Physics. Learning Moho from beginner to expert.

Day 32 / 38 – Moho

Oh my goodness, y’all I am on day 32 out of 38 and just 6 days away from officially becoming a Moho “expert.” 😂 Exciting times! I’m pretty sure Moho is getting ready to send me an invitation to become a Moho Ambassador. Because obviously Moho said I would be an expert 😉

Today, we’re diving into Physics as a group, which should be a lot of fun. Another day closer, another lesson learned, and another step deeper into Mohoverse.

Things to Know:

✔ Apply Physics to a group

Apply Physics

  1. Put all your vector layers in a group.
  2. Double click the group, navigate to the “Physics” tab.
  3. You have the option to choose gravity direction, and magnitude (impact).

After you apply, you will notice your objects will just fall off the screen. To have them land on something, you need to create a shelf (or some other fixed object).

Insert Fixed Object

  1. Add a vector layer to your current group
  2. Draw your shelf (or immovable object)
  3. double click the layer
  4. Go to the physics tab
  5. Choose non moving object

Now you will notice when you play the animation, the items will fall onto the shelf. You can then adjust the group settings (angle or gravity). However, you can also adjust the physics on each individual layer to create a more dynamic animation.

I drew the little wooden spools in Moho. It’s a unique challenge looking at a screen while your hand is down on the desk doing something else entirely. It definitely makes my artwork a bit wonky. I can’t decide if that’s a bad thing. It keeps me loose and stops me from falling into my usual Procreate trap of zooming in way too far and obsessing over details nobody will ever notice. Sometimes wonky has its charms.

That said, this whole experience is making me increasingly interested in getting a drawing tablet for my computer. Moho may be teaching me animation, but apparently it’s also helping me spend money I don’t have and haven’t spent yet. Oh, this hobby of mine.

Day 32 — Afterthoughts

Are perfectly pointless things really pointless?

I tell myself that every step in the journey is important. Today took an inordinate amount of time because I decided to add a hand-drawn element. Was it worth it for a bouncy wooden spool of thread doing a completely pointless thing?

I haven’t decided yet.

The jury seems to be out on a multitude of things these days. I mean, I’m writing afterthoughts now. For myself? For posterity? For the three people who accidentally clicked on this post? I honestly have no idea if anyone is reading.

But if you are, thank you.

And if you have any questions, please ask.

Meanwhile, somewhere in the Mohoverse, a completely pointless spool of thread continues its dramatic fall. 🧵
