Day 5 / 38 – Moho
One of the strengths of Moho is how easily it works with layered files from Adobe Photoshop. You can import a PSD and keep the layer structure intact as it comes into Moho. That’s great news for digital artists, because any app that can export a .psd can fit into the workflow.
For me, that means I can still sketch in Procreate, clean up and organize layers in Photoshop, and then bring everything into Moho for animation. It’s a process that feels very similar to the workflow I’ve been using with Adobe Character Animator.
In Procreate tap: Actions (wrench icon) > Share > PSD.
Things to Know:
✔ Drawing and Organizing for the Head
✔ Drawing and Organizing for the Body
The real question for artists is this: how do you draw a character in Procreate, Adobe Fresco, etc. and set it up so it can actually move in Moho?
Here’s what I’ve learned so far about a typical rig structure in Moho.

When you’re drawing your character, think in parts, not pictures. A head isn’t just a head — it’s a collection of pieces that will eventually need to rotate, bend, or swap. Eyes blink. Mouths change shapes. Arms bend at elbows. If you draw everything as one flat illustration, Moho won’t have much to work with.
So to make a simple puppet: separate anything that might move.
Head.
Torso.
Upper arm.
Lower arm.
Hand.
Thigh.
Shin.
Foot.
A good rig also keeps layers organized in a hierarchy. Think of it like a family tree. The body sits at the top. The arm belongs to the torso. The forearm belongs to the arm. The hand belongs to the forearm. When the parent moves, the children follow.
Tip to remember: if you draw in the Moho app, do all your drawing on timeline ZERO > if you manipulate any part of the drawing later, it will act as a keyframe.
The idea being, if you organize your PSD this way before importing it into Moho, the animation process becomes much smoother. In other words: you’re not just drawing a character.
You’re drawing a puppet.
And the cleaner your layer structure is, the easier that puppet will be to animate later. This is something I’m still learning, but the big takeaway so far is simple: the rig starts with the drawing.
