My youngest tore his ACL at a basketball tournament in LA, and isn’t that just like life? One minute you have one trajectory, and the next another. I had planned on taking a summer class at Quinnipiac to finish up my master’s, but now my life is revolving around a series of PT appointments. My son is being an absolute champ about the whole thing, even though I know this is not the journey he would have preferred.

So in the meantime, I am doing a bit of side work, as well as taking Silvia Ferpal’s Graphic Design for Beginners course. We can talk about the downsides of the digital age all day long, but the upside is definitely the ability to learn from a number of experts in their field. Silvia is clearly one.

You are never too old to learn more than you already know and to become able to do more than you already can.

― Isaac Asimov

Ferpal’s class introduced me to the Bauhaus for the very first time, at the heart of Bauhaus design principles were basic geometric shapes—circles, triangles, and squares—used not merely as decorative elements, but as essential building blocks of form and structure. These shapes were imbued with meaning, representing fundamental concepts such as unity, harmony, and balance.

Now, my mind is swirling with geometric shapes, thanks to Ferpal’s introduction to the Bauhaus movement. Ferpal provides students an opportunity to delve deeper into these shapes through practical exercises, encouraging experimentation and exploration of their interplay.
