central valley

When I’m out and about I often find myself feeling nostalgic about the Central Valley. Despite being aware of its drawbacks, I can’t help but appreciate living in a place where things grow! The sight of March blooms never fails to captivate me, and it’s something I never get tired of witnessing.

Spanning approximately 20,000 square miles, the Central Valley, also known as the Great Valley of California, is one of the world’s remarkable structural depressions. Situated squarely within California, it is bordered by the Cascade Range to the north, the Sierra Nevada to the east, the Tehachapi Mountains to the south, and the Coast Ranges running alongside San Francisco Bay to the west.

As a sprawling agricultural powerhouse, the Central Valley is nourished by the waters of the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers. Despite utilizing less than 1% of U.S. farmland, this region contributes a staggering 8% to the nation’s agricultural output by value. Impressively, it yields a quarter of the nation’s food supply, including an astounding 40% of the nation’s fruits, nuts, and various table foods.

If you believe in eating real, wholesome food, consider supporting Central Valley farming efforts! These dedicated farmers work hard to provide unprocessed, nutritious produce for your table. By backing Central Valley agriculture, you’re not only supporting local communities but also promoting sustainable farming practices that prioritize the production of genuine, wholesome food .

Stone fruit season is just around the corner in the Central Valley, and I cant wait to my visit to my favorite fruit stand!
