Basketball.

My two boys started playing basketball in 1st and 3rd grade. We were so fortunate to be embraced by a local youth program in our hometown that took us in and treated us like family. There aren’t enough words to express what it means to have solid men investing in my young men’s lives, there is nothing like multiple mop-ups to set a boy straight. Day Day & my Tad.

Basketball offers the chance to: work as a team, communicate, develop social skills, discipline, deal with disappointment, explore other states, volunteer to help others, make life-long friendships, and develop personal skills that will carry with players throughout their lives. Super 6 host basketball tournaments in Orlando, Fl. Their mission, “is to bridge the education gap for underserved youth and prepare them for success in life beyond sports.” They do this through programs that emphasize the importance of a strong academic foundation, delivered through sports activities in a supportive environment.

Together, we strive to empower our students to reach their full potential and succeed in their academic and professional goals.

Super 6.

Ideas for design came fast and furious. I knew I wanted to tweak the traditional orange basketball poster. Thoughts of Florida, color, empowerment through sports, summer, bright, and fun raced through my head. As well, as the super 6 logo that is reminiscent of a super hero.

Basketball images were painted in Procreate, and then taken into Illustrator and made into vector art.

I then had several elements to interact with each other within the design:

the Super 6 logo

the dunk

the basketball

the play of colors

I had two goals when designing for Super 6. The first was to design materials specifically for their upcoming event on Memorial Day Weekend, May Classic. However, the second was to create social post that promote their website, and raise awareness of their brand. Super 6 has the ability to reproduce their vision, as they specialize in consulting, project management, and assisting with the basketball site build-out of facilities, ensuring that the work is completed efficiently and within budget.

In the Florida area, Super 6 has built and maintained basketball facilities that make it possible for kids to have access to a safe and affordable space to play ball. Their facilities boast: 8 rims, access to shooting guns, AC, music, bathrooms, and flexibility in scheduling, as a trainer or team can jump on an online open calendar and find a time to work out.

However, every city would benefit from this type of basketball facility, which offers a variety of competition, and an ability to play and build developmental skills. Giving kids the opportunity to stay active and according to UN Office on Drugs & Crime, off the streets. Our boys are almost past the age of benefit, but we believe in the benefits of this model so much that my husband, a developer, has offered his services whenever needed to Vance Walberg, who is looking to create a similar facility in our area.
